Otafest Idol

The pre-registration limit has been reached ... but you still have a chance to join in!  The initial 30 people will get to go first, but then anyone else who wants to sing will get their chance & see if they can make it to the finals!

If you want to confirm whether or not I have a certain song, feel free to email me at shansen@otafest.com.  However, no more pre-registrations will be accepted.

Pre-reg for Otafest Idol is now full, however we will be accepting walkups the day of the event if you would like to signup.  For more information, please go to our forums - post #123.

Rules

1. There is a list of songs available at Otafest Idol Song List.  This is the list of instrumental tracks that will be provided by Otafest.  If you choose one of these, then you do not have to provide music of your own.
2. If you want to perform a song not on the list, then you must provide your own music.  You must have an actual karaoke/instrumental track.  Singing a cappella (without accompaniment) will not be allowed.
3. The song must be related to anime, video games, or anything that fits with these genres of music (J-Pop, J-Rock, etc.).
4. There is no restriction with regards to language.  You will not be penalized (or rewarded) for choosing a song in a certain language.
5. You must print out the lyrics for your song yourself.  I have copies of lyrics for all of the songs on the list, which I can send to you.  However, I will not have any printed copies the day of the event.  The lyrics will not be displayed on the screen behind the performer.
6. There will be two microphones, so you can perform either solo or in a group of two.  No larger groups will be allowed.

 This year, we’ll be splitting the event into two parts.  The first day, Saturday, will be a 3-hour block for preliminaries.  I’ll be capping the pre-registration at 30 people.  The remainder of the 3-hour block will be filled by people who show up the day of the event.  Those who have pre-registered will have priority. 

The top 10 will move on to the finals on Sunday.

 When you sign up, please include the following information:

• Your full name (if performing in a group, please provide both people’s names)
• Your email address
• Select three songs that you want to sing, in order of preference.  I will do my best to accommodate everyone.  Please include the name of the song, the artist, and the series it’s from (if applicable).
• Please indicate if the songs you have selected are on the list – if not, then you’ll need to submit music on the day of the event, or email it to me in advance (this would be preferred).

 Submit this information to shansen@otafest.com.  Please include the words “Otafest Idol” in the subject.

We will attempt to give everyone their first choice.  If two (or more) people choose the same song, then we will look at their #2 (and possibly #3) songs.  You will be informed if we have to change your song.  Preference will be given to those who entered first. 

We will have a cut-off date of Sunday, May 11^th.  No pre-registered entries will be accepted after this date.  Emails will be sent out to everyone at this point to confirm the song that they have selected.  Once confirmed, no changes will be allowed.

The ordering of competitors will be randomized, so the first entrant will not necessarily be the first performer.
